Lansbury Guesthouse

The Lansbury The house was built in 1880 and was owned by a builder called Liddel, who lived in number 23 and rented out number 29 to a master mariner by the name of William Newton. It was called Fylingdales House. The whole of Hudson Street was being built by George Hudson until bankruptcy forced him to relinquish his empire to Sir George Eliot, who also built the railway running from Scarborough, Whitby, Middlesbrough and all the villages in between. The house was rented until the late 1950's staying in the same family for 70 years. It was then sold and converted into flats. It changed hands again and became a family home in the early 1960's only to be sold and turned into a small guesthouse renamed The Lansbury. It changed hands several times during the 70's and 80's and was purchased by Ruth & Mark Simonds in 2001, who are now the new proprietors of The Lansbury.
